The Black Eyed Peas are an American musical group known for their eclectic mix of hip hop, pop, dance, and electronic music. The band was formed in Los Angeles in 1995 by will.i.am, apl.de.ap, and Taboo. They initially started as a hip-hop group, releasing their debut album Behind the Front in 1998, which featured a more traditional hip-hop sound. However, it wasn’t until their third album, Elephunk (2003), that the Black Eyed Peas found mainstream success. The addition of singer Fergie in 2002 helped shift the group's sound toward a more commercial blend of pop and dance music. The album included the worldwide hit "Where is the Love?" which addressed social and political issues and became a defining anthem for the band. After Fergie's departure in 2017, the group continued to evolve, incorporating new influences and focusing on more socially conscious messages with their album Translation (2020).
