System of a Down is an Armenian-American metal band formed in 1994 in Glendale, California. The band's lineup consists of lead vocalist Serj Tankian, guitarist Daron Malakian, bassist Shavo Odadjian, and drummer John Dolmayan. Known for their unique blend of heavy metal, alternative rock, and elements of Armenian folk music, System of a Down quickly stood out in the late 1990s and early 2000s for their politically charged lyrics and genre-defying sound.
