DanaHaynes's Music Collectibles 2-26 Crosby Stills Nash
Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) is an American rock supergroup formed in 1968, bringing together three of the most influential musicians of the 1960s: David Crosby (formerly of The Byrds), Stephen Stills (of Buffalo Springfield), and Graham Nash (formerly of The Hollies). The trio's harmonies and reflective, often politically charged lyrics made them an instant force in the folk-rock and countercultural scenes. Their debut album, Crosby, Stills & Nash (1969), was a critical and commercial success, with tracks like "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" and "Marrakesh Express" becoming iconic anthems of the era. Known for their beautiful vocal harmonies and intricate acoustic guitar work, CSN quickly became one of the most beloved and influential acts of the late 1960s and early 1970s, often associated with the peace and love movement.
In 1970, Neil Young, another prominent figure from Buffalo Springfield, joined the band, forming the quartet Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (CSNY), which produced some of their most famous and enduring music, including Déjà Vu (1970) and the protest anthem "Ohio." However, due to personality conflicts and differing musical visions, CSNY was often a fluid lineup, with members taking breaks or working on solo projects. Despite these shifts, Crosby, Stills, and Nash continued to perform and record together through the decades, releasing albums such as Daylight Again (1982) and CSN (1990). Their sound, characterized by lush harmonies and thought-provoking lyrics, has remained influential, with CSN and CSNY continuing to be celebrated as pillars of American rock, particularly for their contributions to the folk-rock genre and their outspoken political and social commentary.
