DanaHaynes's Music Collectibles 2-28 Motley Crue
Mötley Crüe is an iconic American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1981, known for their over-the-top performances, hedonistic lifestyle, and influential contributions to the glam metal scene. The band was founded by bassist Nikki Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee, lead guitarist Mick Mars, and vocalist Vince Neil. Mötley Crüe's early music was defined by loud, raucous rock with catchy hooks, powerful riffs, and wild, rebellious attitudes. Their 1981 debut Too Fast for Love caught the attention of fans and critics alike, but it was their 1983 album Shout at the Devil that brought them mainstream success. The album produced hits like "Looks That Kill" and the title track, and solidified their place at the forefront of the 1980s glam metal movement, with their extravagant style and party-hearty image becoming synonymous with the genre.
Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, Mötley Crüe became one of the biggest rock bands in the world, known for their reckless antics and chart-topping albums like Theatre of Pain (1985), Girls, Girls, Girls (1987), and the massively successful Dr. Feelgood (1989), which featured hits like "Kickstart My Heart" and "Dr. Feelgood." However, internal tensions, personal struggles, and changing musical landscapes led to several lineup changes over the years. Despite this, Mötley Crüe remained a major force in rock, with their energetic live shows and a legacy of wild stories from their hedonistic lifestyle. The band officially retired in 2015 after announcing their "Final Tour," but in 2020, they signed a contract promising never to break up, ensuring that Mötley Crüe's legacy as one of rock’s most infamous and influential bands would continue for generations. Their music continues to define the glam metal genre, and they remain a symbol of excess, rebellion, and rock 'n' roll.
