Boyz II Men is an American R&B vocal group that became one of the best-selling musical acts of all time. Formed in Philadelphia in 1988, the group originally consisted of Nathan Morris, Michael McCary, Wanya Morris, and Shawn Stockman, who met while attending the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts. Boyz II Men’s smooth harmonies and emotional delivery quickly gained attention, and by the early '90s, they had signed with Motown Records. Their debut album, Cooleyhighharmony (1991), achieved critical and commercial success, with the hit single “Motownphilly” introducing their distinctive blend of doo-wop, R&B, and new jack swing. The group’s breakthrough came with their second album, II (1994), which featured the chart-topping ballad “I’ll Make Love to You” and solidified their place as one of the leading R&B acts of the decade.
Throughout the '90s and into the 2000s, Boyz II Men continued to dominate the charts with a series of hits, including “End of the Road,” “On Bended Knee,” and “A Song for Mama.” The group became known for their emotionally charged ballads and flawless vocal harmonies, making them one of the most successful R&B groups in history. Boyz II Men also earned numerous awards, including multiple Grammy Awards, and were recognized for their contribution to the evolution of contemporary R&B. While the group went through several lineup changes, including Michael McCary's departure in 2003 due to health issues, Boyz II Men remains a lasting symbol of the golden age of R&B, continuing to perform and record music with their signature blend of soulful vocals and heartfelt lyrics. Their legacy has influenced countless artists and their timeless hits still resonate with audiences worldwide.
