DanaHaynes's Music Collectibles 3-16 Oasis
Oasis was a British rock band formed in Manchester in 1991, best known for their anthemic songs and for being one of the most significant bands of the Britpop movement in the 1990s. The band was initially formed by guitarist Noel Gallagher and his younger brother Liam Gallagher, who became the lead vocalist. The classic lineup included Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs (guitar), Tony McCarroll (drums), and Guigsy (bass), though the band underwent several lineup changes over the years. Oasis quickly rose to prominence with the release of their debut album Definitely Maybe (1994), which became the fastest-selling debut album in British history. Their raw energy, catchy guitar riffs, and the sibling dynamic between Noel and Liam made them a sensation, with tracks like "Live Forever" and "Supersonic" becoming instant classics.
Oasis reached the peak of their fame with their 1995 album (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, which included some of their biggest hits, such as "Wonderwall," "Don't Look Back in Anger," and "Champagne Supernova." These tracks solidified the band as global superstars and cultural icons of the 1990s. Despite their commercial success, Oasis was known for its internal strife, particularly the tumultuous relationship between Noel and Liam, which often led to public clashes and volatile behavior. The band released several more albums, including Be Here Now (1997) and Standing on the Shoulder of Giants (2000), but after a series of tensions, Oasis officially split in 2009. Though their breakup marked the end of an era, their music continues to be celebrated, and both Noel and Liam Gallagher have pursued solo careers, with their legacy as one of Britain’s most influential rock bands still intact.
