Everclear is an American alternative rock band formed in 1991 in Portland, Oregon, by lead singer and songwriter Art Alexakis. The band’s early lineup consisted of Alexakis, guitarist Craig Montoya, and drummer Greg Eklund, and they initially gained attention with their gritty, emotional rock sound. Their breakthrough came with the release of their 1995 album Sparkle and Fade, which produced the hit singles "Santa Monica" and "I Will Buy You a New Life." The album’s blend of catchy melodies, confessional lyrics, and Alexakis' raw, raspy vocals struck a chord with audiences, making Everclear one of the prominent bands in the mid-'90s alternative rock scene.
