DanaHaynes's Music Collectibles 3-28 Harvey Danger
Harvey Danger was an American alternative rock band formed in 1992 in Seattle, Washington. The band was initially composed of vocalist and guitarist Sean Nelson, guitarist Evan Sult, bassist Jeff J. Lin, and drummer Aaron Huffman. Harvey Danger first garnered attention with their 1994 single "Flagpole Sitta," a sarcastic and anthemic track that became a defining hit of the '90s alt-rock scene. The song, with its catchy riff and defiant, tongue-in-cheek lyrics ("I'm not sick, but I'm not well"), became an immediate radio favorite and is widely remembered for its portrayal of alienation and frustration. The track was featured on their debut album, Harvey Danger (1994), which garnered critical praise but didn't achieve widespread commercial success outside of "Flagpole Sitta," which became a top 40 hit in the U.S.
Despite the early success of "Flagpole Sitta," Harvey Danger struggled to maintain the momentum, and their second album, King James Version (1998), failed to replicate the commercial impact of their debut. The band's sound evolved, incorporating more complex arrangements and a blend of post-grunge, pop, and indie rock influences, but they continued to fly under the radar of mainstream success. Harvey Danger disbanded in 2000 after a brief and tumultuous period, though their legacy was cemented by the enduring popularity of "Flagpole Sitta" in the '90s alt-rock scene. In 2009, the band briefly reunited for a series of shows, and their music continues to resonate with fans of the '90s alternative scene. Harvey Danger remains a cult favorite, remembered for their sharp lyrics, unique sound, and the lasting impact of their iconic single.
