DanaHaynes's Music Collectibles 4-4 Smash Mouth
Smash Mouth is an American rock band formed in 1994 in San Jose, California. The band was initially comprised of lead vocalist Steve Harwell, guitarist Greg Camp, bassist Paul De Lisle, and drummer Kevin Coleman. Their music is known for blending elements of rock, pop, ska, and ska-punk with a laid-back, fun vibe. Smash Mouth achieved mainstream success with the release of their debut album Fush Yu Mang in 1997, which included the breakout hit "Walkin' on the Sun." The song became an instant classic with its catchy, upbeat sound, and the album went on to sell over 2 million copies, securing Smash Mouth's place in the alternative rock scene. Their blend of infectious melodies and quirky lyrics helped establish them as a staple of the '90s and early 2000s.
Following the success of Fush Yu Mang, Smash Mouth released their sophomore album, Astro Lounge (1999), which included the massive hit "All Star." The song quickly became a pop culture phenomenon, particularly after being featured in the film Shrek (2001), cementing Smash Mouth’s legacy in both music and film. Despite lineup changes and fluctuating popularity, the band continued to release music throughout the 2000s and beyond, with albums such as Smash Mouth (2006) and Magic (2012). Their fun, quirky image and enduring hits like "All Star" and "Then the Morning Comes" have kept them a beloved part of pop culture. Smash Mouth's music remains synonymous with the carefree spirit of the late '90s and early 2000s, and they continue to perform and entertain fans with their energetic live shows.
