DanaHaynes's Music Collectibles 4-9 Fuel
Fuel is an American rock band formed in 1994 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The band was initially formed by guitarist Carl Bell, bassist Jeff Abercrombie, drummer Jody Abbott, and vocalist Brett Scallions. Fuel gained early recognition with their 1998 debut album Sunburn, which included the hit single "Shimmer," a song that blended hard rock with emotional lyrics, helping the band secure a place in the late '90s rock scene. Their distinctive mix of post-grunge and alternative rock with melodic hooks allowed them to stand out among their contemporaries. Fuel's follow-up album, Something Like Human (2000), was even more successful, spawning hits like "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" and "Bad Day," which earned them widespread radio play and significant commercial success.
Fuel's success continued into the early 2000s, though the band faced lineup changes over the years, including the departure of original vocalist Brett Scallions in 2006. Despite these challenges, they remained active, releasing albums such as Angels & Devils (2007) and Puppet Strings (2014). Although they never reached the same commercial peak as with Something Like Human, Fuel maintained a dedicated fanbase with their emotionally charged lyrics and anthemic rock sound. With their mix of post-grunge heaviness and accessible melodies, Fuel became known for their intense, powerful performances and their ability to blend personal introspection with large-scale rock anthems.
