DanaHaynes's Music Collectibles 4-16 The Flys
The Flys were an American rock band formed in 1997 in Los Angeles, California. The group’s original lineup consisted of lead vocalist and guitarist Sam (Samantha) Maloney, guitarist and bassist Dan (Dan Karrol), and drummer David (David Pasillas). The Flys initially garnered attention with their mix of alternative rock and grunge influences, and they quickly began gaining traction with their energetic and catchy songs. They released their debut album Holiday Man in 1998, which included the hit single "Got You (Where I Want You)." The song became a standout track on alternative rock radio and garnered significant attention, helping the band land a spot in the late '90s and early 2000s alternative rock scene.
Despite the initial success, The Flys were unable to maintain the same level of commercial momentum with subsequent releases. Their follow-up album, Workbench Songs (2001), failed to capture the same mass appeal as Holiday Man. The Flys had a sound that was a bit more pop-oriented than the grunge style of their early years, which ultimately led to mixed reactions from critics and fans. Although the band never reached mainstream success, they were admired by a niche group of alternative music enthusiasts for their mix of melodic pop-rock and gritty sound. Despite several lineup changes and a low profile in later years, The Flys remain a beloved underground act for their catchy, hook-filled rock music that captured the spirit of the late '90s alternative wave.
