DanaHaynes's Music Collectibles 4-17 Better Then Ezra
Better Than Ezra is an American alternative rock band formed in 1988 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The group was originally formed by three college friends: Kevin Griffin (lead vocals and guitar), Tom Drummond (bass), and Travis McNabb (drums). They initially performed under the name The Hedgehogs before changing to Better Than Ezra, inspired by a character from the novel "The Great Gatsby." The band first gained significant attention in 1993 with the release of their debut album Deluxe, which featured their breakthrough hit single "Good," a song that became a staple of 1990s alternative rock radio. The track's catchy melody and introspective lyrics helped propel the band into the mainstream and solidified their place in the alternative rock scene.
After the success of Deluxe, Better Than Ezra followed up with Friction, Baby (1996), which included hits like "Desperately Wanting" and "King of New Orleans." While the band's commercial success began to wane slightly in the late '90s and early 2000s, they continued to maintain a dedicated fanbase thanks to their consistent release of well-crafted albums and their engaging live shows. Better Than Ezra's sound, characterized by their melodic hooks, reflective lyrics, and a mix of pop and alternative influences, has allowed them to remain a beloved act in the rock music scene. Over the years, the band has gone through a few lineup changes, with Griffin being the sole consistent member, but their music continues to resonate with fans, and they remain active, performing and recording new material.
