DanaHaynes's Music Collectibles 4-22 The Breeders
The Breeders are an American alternative rock band formed in 1989 by Kim Deal, best known as the bassist and vocalist of Pixies, along with guitarist Tanya Donelly, formerly of Throwing Muses. The band emerged from the indie rock scene with a distinct sound that blended grunge, alternative rock, and pop influences. The Breeders’ debut album, Pod (1990), was critically acclaimed, though it was their 1993 follow-up, Last Splash, that catapulted them to mainstream success. Last Splash featured the breakout hit "Cannonball," which became a staple of alternative radio and MTV, and the album itself became one of the defining works of the '90s alternative rock movement. The Breeders’ unique sound, driven by Kim Deal’s raw, melodic vocals and the band's loose, yet catchy instrumentation, helped them carve out a unique niche in the indie rock scene.
Throughout the years, The Breeders have gone through several lineup changes, but Kim Deal has remained the constant force at the band's core. They continued to release well-received albums, such as Title TK (2002) and Mountain Battles (2008), which maintained their reputation for crafting captivating and unpredictable music. Although they never matched the commercial success of Last Splash, The Breeders have remained a beloved and influential band within the alternative rock and indie communities. Known for their ability to create music that is both experimental and accessible, they continue to tour and record, with their distinct blend of fuzzed-out guitar riffs and quirky, catchy melodies resonating with both new fans and long-time listeners.
