DanaHaynes's Music Collectibles 4-25 Space Hog
Spacehog is a British rock band formed in 1994 in New York City, known for their eclectic mix of alternative rock, glam, and hard rock influences. The band was initially composed of four members: siblings Royston and Antony Langdon, along with Richard Steel and Jonny Cragg. Spacehog’s debut album, Resident Alien (1995), was a critical and commercial success, largely driven by the hit single "In the Meantime," which became a staple on alternative rock radio and MTV. The album showcased their distinctive sound, characterized by catchy hooks, fuzzy guitar riffs, and Royston Langdon’s charismatic, often glam-inspired vocals. The band’s style often drew comparisons to '70s glam rock bands like David Bowie and T. Rex, with a modern alternative twist.
Following the success of Resident Alien, Spacehog released several albums, including The Chinese Album (1998) and The Hogyssey (2001), though they struggled to replicate the commercial impact of their debut. Despite this, their music remained a unique blend of rock and roll, with influences ranging from classic rock to modern alternative. The band went on hiatus in the early 2000s but reunited in 2008 for a series of performances and continued to tour sporadically. While Spacehog never achieved the same level of mainstream success as some of their contemporaries, their distinctive sound and the enduring popularity of "In the Meantime" have solidified them as an influential, though often overlooked, act in the alternative rock scene.
